Ka Ora - Group Exhibition

Ka Ora (I Live), the last show at ORA Gallery New York. It is a group show featuring artists who have shown there previously (including myself) under the steady watch of Giarna TeKanawa.

I will have several photographs on show (available for purchase).

"KA ORA (I LIVE) is the last show for ORA Gallery New York and a celebration of the extraordinary life of a small Chelsea gallery. ORA has been a window into Aotearoa New Zealand and a marae (community hub) for many New Zealanders in New York.
Gallery creator Giarna TeKanawa took up an unexpected opportunity to open a gallery and generously welcomed a broad range of artists from Aotearoa, revealing a vibrant slice of our homeland’s creative talent to New York. What began as a three-month pop-up show continued to weave itself into a rich lineage of exhibits, often organically emerging through connections from one artist to the next. As ORA settled itself into 7th Ave, it also welcomed a growing whanau (extended family) of New Zealanders living in New York or visiting, a small patch of Aotearoa for all of us."

This exhibition will illustrate the limitless possibilities of mobile art, shatter preconceived notions about the genre, and demonstrate that a desire to push boundaries can spark a global movement to redefine photography.

To harness the energy in the global mobile photography community, EXPOSURE will feature nearly 300 photographs in a wide variety of styles and subject matter. The exhibition features emerging and seasoned photographers, many award-winning, who are connected by their devices and creative spirit.

MINA at Fringe

As part of MINA (Mobil Innovation Network Aotearoa) I have been involved with Dr Max Schleser from Massey University Wellington in producing a mobile photography/film showcase for the Wellington Fringe Festival 2012. This is a first for New Zealand and is possibly the first event of its kind in the world.

MINA at Fringe
Mobile Visual Art Showcase
Feb 10 - March 3, 2012

Shoot and share. Showcasing the creative edge use of mobile technology in visual arts; photography and moving image. Locally. Globally.

The use of mobile phones in the creation and distribution of creative content in the hands of both amateurs and professionals is rapidly growing. In New Zealand, at the forefront of this new art form is MINA (Mobile Innovation Network Aotearoa), brining together a collective of mobile content creators both locally and internationally.

MINA at Fringe brings to the 2012 Wellington Fringe Festival a combination of a mobile visual showcase and “pop-up” public screenings around the Festival.

Content is exclusively created on mobile devices, primarily from iPhone and Android platforms and includes photography (“phoneography”, “iPhoneography) and moving image (“micromovies”, “mobile-mentaries”).

Artists from New Zealand and around the world can submit their mobile film and photography content to be shown at MINA at Fringe, for the pop-up screenings and showcases.

Watch a video slideshow of the inaugural MINA at Fringe Showcase artists - 34 mobile photographers from around the world.

The first open call for submissions will be from Wednesday February 1st until Wednesday February 8th.

Contributors are asked to submit from one to five works each.

Curators of the submitted works are Dr. Max Schleser (lecturer, researcher, filmmaker) and Andrew B. White (iPhone photographer).

Further calls for works will be announced during the festival.

To submit your mobile photography or film, simply email them to participate@mina.pro within the specified time-frames.

For MINA at Fringe, MEA Mobile have added a special MINA portal within their vintage 8mm film iPhone app "iSupr8".

Users of the app can directly submit any of their iSupr8 videos for show at MINA at Fringe.

Fringe-goers are also encouraged to use their mobile devices to shoot and upload their own experiences during the Festival.

Submit your mobile work and be part of Wellington Fringe 2012!

Check the MINA website, follow MINA on tumblr and Facebook for screening times, updates, info and further submission dates.
