My Friend The Chocolate Cake

A few images from the My Friend the Chocolate Cake May 28th show in Melbourne at the Arts Centre.

The merchandise table was very busy with the band signing copies of their albums and MFTCC t-shirts and tea towels (designed by me) flying out the door! The tea towel won-out on the night as the most popular item.

Number 5 Album This Week

Christchurch-based singer Janice Bateman has her Here I Am album at the number five position in this week's NZ Top 40 chart. I worked on this album cover with the digital retouching and design/layout. Original photo by Paula Grant.

Good work to Janice, Nathan Graves at Innate Music in London and EMI NZ.

My Friend The Chocolate Cake

The new My Friend The Chocolate Cake album Fiasco is out now in Australia and iTunes worldwide through Shock Records. I was lucky enough to work on the cover for this release. The front cover collage is by Warwick Jolly (responsible for several MFTCC covers including their debut and "Brood") while the photography is by Pierre Baroni, a Melbourne-based photographer and graphic designer who has produced dozens of album covers for some of Australia's biggest recording artists.

Now in their 21st year, MFTCC are one of my favourite bands, having been introduced to them at the time of their Brood album in 1994 when I was doing work for Festival Records NZ (who at the time distributed the White label). I was fortunate enough to attend their showcase gig in Auckland around that time (one of their only NZ shows thus far I believe).

Fiasco comes as a digipak with a 12 page booklet.
Plans are afoot for a vinyl version in the not too distant future.

As part of the Fiasco project I also designed and produced street posters, street press and web ads and have also designed t-shirts and tea-towels for their merchandising.

MFTCC are currently on tour in Australia to promote Fiasco.
All details can be found at the MFTCC website.
I'll be in Melbourne for the show on May 28th - see you there!
