Art Schop - StarGuide

The new album from Art Schop “Starguide” is out now.
I put together the artwork for this release using a cover painting by William Chajin for a CD didipak with 12 page booklet.

The music is themed on space and our interactions with it, continuing Art Schop’s body of work exploring the human condition in an avant-rock sphere.

I also shot publicity photos and produced a lyric video for the album track ‘Black Hole’.

Diamond Field - The Album

Diamond Field releases their debut album on Friday, July 30th 2021

After a run of outstanding singles, on July 30th NYC’s Diamond Field is set to release their self-titled debut album of 10 brand new songs, shimmering with the sound of the 1980s.

Diamond Field’s Andy Diamond worked on the album with vocalists and musicians from across the U.S., to Scotland and New Zealand. All fine artists in their own right, vocalists include Cody Carpenter (Ludrium, John Carpenter), Chelsea Nenni (Late Slip), Nik Brinkman (Junica, Over The Atlantic), Belinda Bradley (Selon Recliner), Kyle Brauch (MIDWAVE, Rain Rabbit), Becca Starr and Miriam Clancy, with return appearances from previous Diamond Field collaborators Nina Luna and Matthew J. Ruys. The Saxophone Warrior (Felix Pastorius’ Hipster Assassins, Fischerspooner, Lord Huron) makes a special appearance on sax, with LA’s Rodger Cunningham on guitar. Andy has also performed and recorded with many of these artists outside of Diamond Field, making the collaboration process feel like a musical family affair.

Diamond Field’s sound is inspired by ‘80s producers like Hugh Padgham (Phill Collins, The Police), Rupert Hine (Howard Jones, The Fixx) and Peter Wolf (Wang Chung, Survivor), whose production techniques mixed traditional instruments with the latest tech of the time. On Diamond Field, electric guitars, bass, and ‘real’ drums are combined with drum machines, sequencers, and synthesizers; vocals are up front and stacks of backing vocals regularly fill out the choruses.

For the songwriting, inspiration comes from many places – from ABBA to Michael Sembello, The Go Go’s to Orchestral Maneuvers In The Dark. Careful attention is given to song arrangements – intros to draw you in, pre-choruses build, choruses soar, solos and middle eights keep you engaged. Hooks are everywhere and stick in your head – this is “ear worm central”! Despite the varied song styles and different vocalists, Diamond Field still feels like a cohesive album – like a compilation of pop hits, but all from one artist.

All the album’s tracks were written before the covid-19 pandemic with final mixing taking place over the course of 2020 and early 2021. By chance, many of the song lyrics deal with hope and positivity, and combined with the album’s catchy music, it makes Diamond Field an ideal soundtrack as find our way forward.

The physical release will be available on limited edition hot pink vinyl with a 12x24” insert and on high quality cassette distributed via LA-based boutique vinyl label Sofa King Vinyl. In 2019 Sofa King Vinyl released Diamond Field and Bob Haro’s ‘Won’t Compromise’ on colored 7” vinyl, the first title in Sofa King’s “Synthy Sevens” series which included 7” vinyl releases from Let Em Riot, TEEEL, Palm Lakes and Glitterwolf. Sofa King Vinyl’s previous releases include Opus Science Collective, The Motion Epic and Australia’s much loved synth duo Client Liaison.

Fur Patrol “Pet” Vinyl Reissue

New Zealand band Fur Patrol re-issue their 2000 album “Pet” on vinyl.

Originally released only on CD, Fur Patrol recently released their “Pet” album on double vinyl to coincide with it’s 20th anniversary. On it’s original release in 2000, “Pet” hit No. 7 on the NZ album charts and featured the No. 1 single ‘Lydia’. The vinyl release in April 2021 saw the album back in the NZ Top 40 charts at No. 10 (for all albums) and No. 3 (for NZ albums. At the 2001 New Zealand Music Awards, the album was nominated for “best album cover”.

The artwork was reformatted for vinyl using our original artwork files from the CD release. No re-scanning was required. The vinyl edition is spread across two LPs (a black edition and a limited transparent baby blue edition) in a gatefold sleeve.
Artwork and design by Andrew B. White. Album photography by Becky Nunes.

Client Liaison

We recently handled artwork production for two Client Liaison albums that were pressed-up for vinyl release via Sofa King Vinyl, under license from Dot Dash Recordings, Australia.

The original artwork design for the self-titled Client Liaison album was done by Peter Derring. We expanded on this design for the single, baby pink 33rpm LP, including the labels. An additional photo by Kate Ballis was also added.

The 2x 45rpm blue LP edition of “Diplomatic Immunity” utilized parts of the artwork created for the original Australian release, by Ilya Milstein, with Cosmo Feltham and Stephen Townsend.

Ian Morris - “a and b of the c and d”

”a and b the c of d” is the new album from the late Ian Morris.

This album was recorded before his death in 2010 and has finally been released.
Cover photo is from a 1987 video shoot (photography unknown).

”The family of New Zealand Music icon Ian Morris announce the posthumous release of a and b the c of d, a solo record completed before his death a decade ago. The album will be released digitally and on limited edition LP on 30 October.

Best known as a founding member of Th’ Dudes and as his solo alter ego Tex Pistol, Morris was also an award-winning and in-demand producer and engineer. He won Engineer of the Year in 1978 for Hello Sailor’s debut album at the New Zealand Music Awards. The very next year Th’ Dudes won best single for ‘Be Mine Tonight’ and best group. In the following decades he continued to write and record his own music and that of others, finally making a and b the c of d - his first solo record under his own name.

Kim Willoughby describes the album - named after a family code for ‘above and beyond the call of duty’ - as a collection of songs Ian wrote, produced, collated and left for us fully formed.”

Artwork was created for a 12” vinyl LP and digital release.
